hello all
i need to drill a tap hole into a marble work top. Not sure what size though. have just bought a mixer tap with 10mm tails etc but no threaded flange to take a measurement from. Are all basin holes the same size, 30mm?
Thanks, once someone has enlightened me can order the size from 365 drills.
cheers, john

Drill a hole in a piece of ply or plasterboard and see if it fits, adjust the size of hole as required.

If you've got the chance to drill a hole, make it just the right size for a snug fit. That way you'll get the most secure fixing. As Nick says, drill a test hole and see how it fits. The great thing about the 365 drills is they come in a range of sizes in small increments.

I find monoblocks are always a nightmare if the hole in the basin is too large.

Mark.

wait till u have the taps . single tap holes are 30mm standard on wash hand basins.mono s are 40 generally.

Yes when we did a monoblock for this tap

It had to go through 30mm thick kitchen worktop (standard size thickness)

And so we used a core at 35mm

Core selected for a monoblock - 35mm

The 35mm is the standard fitting but as mentioned above if you can wait and measure then you have the best chance. The 35mm is not wasted because you can always use it for other jobs that require a 32mm waste pipe. So if you buy it then its going to sit well into your tool kit for other days.

For a more in depth look at the project and for some tips and tricks take a look at it in full on our website: [DLMURL="http://www.ukplumbersforums.co.uk/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.*********.com%2Fkitchen.htm"]Full Tap Drilling Project[/DLMURL]

The 35mm is ideal for drilling a hole for a monoblock. But its not wasted... You can reuse the drills for future 32mm sink waste projects.
The kit above comes in a pack of two in case anything should go wrong and you need a spare.
Packs can be found online at *********.com at the [DLMURL="http://www.*********.com/order.htm"]Order Page [/DLMURL]
