What type of pipe is this, and what is the equivalent in internal diameter in MDPE?

Hello,

We have to replace a water pipe because it has a leak after the Thames Water connection to our property (residential block). The pipe that needs to be replaced has an external diameter of 50mm, and prior to entering the building it becomes a 30mm external diameter pipe. What type of pipe is this (lead?), and what is the equivalent of the 50mm pipe into an MDPE pipe with the same INTERNAL diameter?

50mm but it’s a specialist job

Thanks. I am aware that a Thames Water approved contractos has to do this job. I am simply trying to verify a proposal that another building director made. he suggested that we replace the 50mm lead pipe with a 25mm MDPE pipe, and I think that we should repalce it with at least a 32mm MDPE or even 50mm.

32mm would be the minimum will end up around 27mm internally

The lead will have wall thickness of around 7mm.

7mm x 2 = 14mm.

50mm - 14mm = 36mm internal diameter.

So as Shaun said, 32mm minimum, ideally 50mm mdpe.
