I've just been to look at a boiler for a kitchen fitter mate of mine. To cut a long story short there ended up being too much pressure in the boiler (worc 30si) and when the boiler blew off, it leaked into the kitchen.

So here's the scenario. Imagine you've got a brand new Worc 30si hung on the wall and when you remove the case you find that the douchebag who installed it, has not only neglected to push the plastic connector onto the PRV, he's actually gone out of his way to bend the part of the jig that holds it in place and saw off the arm that holds the lug which holds the connector in place. (hopefully this makes sense to anyone familiar with Worcester boilers).

The thing that concerns me is that this course of action was obviously pre-meditated, as he must have bent the jig and cut the lug off before he hung the boiler and I can only imagine all his installs have been bodged in this way.

I've told my mate to tell his customer the situation, but I'm not sure what I should do about it. Any advice?

There are other things that concern me about the install - flue hole filled with expanding foam, and I'm pretty sure it hasn't been flushed out.

Have a free gas saftey inspection from gas safe. They'll throw the book at the installer. That's is he's registered

Will they actually be bothered do you think? I'm pretty sure he is registered, apparently the customer said he was recommended. I can't understand HOW?! it peeves me off that I'm struggling to get decent jobs like this, and cowboys like this are running around.

The custard can request a free inspection from Gas Safe if the installation is brand new. If you have concerns about in warranty stuff then you can direct them to the manufacturers who may not cover the boiler if it's been butchered as you describe... However if the appliance has been installed for a couple of years there's little you can do as I found out earlier this year with a boiler under gassed :)

It's a week old or thereabouts so is brand new. I'll inform the homeowner to get a gas safe inspection and make sure they look inside the boiler.

Obviously warranty is an issue, not only because the boiler has been butchered, but when it blows off everything got covered in water!

Has he run the pipework up the back of the boiler ?? Only reason to butcher that part of the jig is because someone has run the pipework to the rear and has run the pipes in the area you're not supposed to. From experience I had an apprentice do this and he couldn't get the boiler on, when we looked, the pipework interfered with the PRV and bracket. I took it of and moved the pipes, maybe he just sawed the PRV bracket off. Either way mate would Gassafe be interested ?? It's not ID in that state, not IMO.

No, pipe work is to the side. He's just done it out of laziness cos he knows they're a pain to line up.

That's just poor and lazy installation then mate, I would tell the customer to get him back and sort it.

He didn't know where it was. Customer wasn't home, just the joiner.
