hi guys,

I am going to install a boiler in a council flat and the property housing association asked to put firestops in when I go through walls.

Could any one of you tell me what sort of firestops these people talk about? I know when going through walls you will need to sleeve the pipes of non combustible material and have an annular space. Also too, one side should be sealed with a non combustible material which could be either silicone or high temperature sealant.

They have ask many questions in regards of the installation I’m going to do.

Kind regards,

Ron

They only asked me to put firestops when going through a wall. I’m going with one gas pipe through a thin wall. The boiler will be installed in a cupboard but will need high and low level vent ... will just use the fire mastic as a firestop.

Thank you for the link

Is the wall a fire wall ?

Also why a high and low vent

It’s a wall between kitchen and the hallway cupboard. I got told when installing boiler it will need a high and low level vent due to overheating. It’s a small tight cupboard though.

What boiler ?

And where's the flue going ?

From an old back boiler which sits inside the chimney to convert to a Combination boiler - ( Vaillant ). The bathroom needs to be re plumb slightly too as it’s currently connected to the tanks.

The flue is going straight outside with a plume kit and guard.

How you going to fire stop the flue hole

I think that's the hole they want sealing

And as far as I am aware. If the boiler clearances are met you shouldn’t need the vents high and low.

Correct unless mis state they need it, haven't seen one yet

Why not ask for their approved method?
Save you guessing

The flue hole I said easy is right next to the entrance door. That’s why I am going to use a plume kit and a flue guard. I am going to seal it as usual with sand cement mix and bricks. What they mean is the gas pipe through the wall which we already talked about.. I will use the Hilti high temp sealant.

It’s for cooling purposes. It definitely needs vents for cooling purposes as the cupboard is relatively small

What about inside

And a plumb kit doesn't allow you to go less than 300mm to an opening it's just for nuisance

What do mi say about ventilation for cooling

Check out the manufacturer instructions there all on the net these days or ask @king of pipes @Harvest Fields
I know I can find them. The customer is indecisive in terms of boiler make. However, ones I know what brand she wants I will make sure it’s complaint. If not, I will come on here as usual and will ask you guys. Dont misunderstand me, I am not taking it for granted I really truly appreciate it that you all are so helpful.
