I recently got it for social reasons but I have one phone for business and personal.

Within couple of days have already received one message from random customer. I was initially struck at how negatively I reacted. I didn't like the fact they can see that I've read their message and having to see their stupid faces by their message felt like even more of an intrusion.

Is this a mad reaction / will go away? I can see it could be a vaguely useful business tool - vaguely - but have decided to get a separate phone for personal now as if I'm going to give people even more tools to bother me I will need a degree of separation.

Anyone familiar with the app is there any way to select only certain people can contact you on it? I mean without manually blocking every other contact which would also not guard against random new ones

Ha
You sound as bad as me. Hate phones personally.
I do use Whattsapp because it's free to send pictures on and I think it is encrypted ?
I might be wrong there though.

I do tend to use it only for friends/family stuff though.
I don't like customers to know if I've received their communication. Not until I have thought about it. There's nothing wrong with my customers but you know where i'm coming from. If they know you've read it, they're waiting for an answer!!!

If you go into the settings on WhatsApp, you can turn off features like "Last Seen" where anyone in your contacts can see what time you last accessed the app. You can also turn off "Read Receipts" in the settings so people can't tell if you've read their message or not. They are in Settings>Privacy. I can only find a "Blocked contact" list you can add contacts to so I'm not sure if you can do it the other way round by having a list of people that can contact you whilst blocking everybody else.

Hope this helps.

I can only agree with harvest, have one as well and doesn’t bother me at all.
