I am currently doing the NVQ Gas course at college.the more I am learning, the more I am noticing pipes, appliances that are NCS or AR, possibly ID.
For example at a customers property recently that I have done work for over several years, but only because of my studies saw that the boiler flue position was wrong ( natural draught balanced flue about 4" to side of opening window ) pointed this out to customer, told her I could make arrangements to sort it, next time I saw her about 2 months later new boiler had been fitted - thanks!
The question is if you see some thing that's wrong but you are not GSR, what responsibility do you to mention it, knowing that they will probably not be interested?

yes when I am doing any Gas work
this was a customer I have done a few general plumbing jobs for over recent years. I would have called back with the fitter I work with to give a quote if requested.
so the question I first posted was on that basis if you are at a house for whatever reason, doing general work, even visiting and you see an issue, do you have an obligation to say something.
Obviously if you were there as a GSR person then you have the responsibility and qualifications to report/act as needed.

If I was somewhere doing non gas related work and I spotted something which I would classify as AR or potentially ID just from looking at it ( like an OF appliance with looks to have signs of spillage for example ), I would make the customer aware and explain the risks and take approriate action. If I spotted something NCS I wouldnt even bother mentioning it as it looks like you are looking to find faults to get extra work.

If I see something unsafe I'll try and inform the responsible person evn if all I can do is put a note through the door. Imagine how you'd feel if you saw that a CO death had occured at the property and you'd said nothing.
