Hi everyone,

I've been reading the forum for years and this has no doubt be done to death like many topics.

I am a heating engineer and have a decent understanding of heating wiring design, install and fault finding.

What's the law on us working on this and is there a course we can do or need to do. I like many others have been doing it for years but I have noticed more and more customers say your a plumber or are you an electrician too lol

And how do I get my Gas badge over there at the side of my name <----------

Thanks in advance

Hi. I'm in the same boat as you. Strictly speaking you are supposed to be fully qualified electrician in order to test and certify your installation. Last year was the deadline to register with CP schemes with only a 17th ticket and a DISQ Part P course qualification, which I duly missed. I had previously been registered with CORGI Benchmark scheme but let it lapse due to costs Etc. Over the last year I have registered via OFTEC Part P, which is cheaper than other electrical schemes direct, but actually administered by NAPIT. As there is no longer an option for limited scope registration, I had to promise to do C&G 2394. I decided to take the plunge and do both C&G 2394 & 2395. I have taken the course and yes it was a challenge as I don't really want to do distribution boards etc. I managed to get through the practical assessment but duly failed the theory exams. They are bloody hard and have an approximate pass rate of 50%. Honestly it makes ACS look a walk in the park. My next go is in August. I am determined to be able to wire my own systems legally. So there it it is. Good luck.

Thanks for all that information and your experiences.

I suppose I too will have to take the plunge eventually and go the whole hog.

I would much prefer a course specifically for what we do as would you.
