can somebody recommend an effective power flushing macine?and are they as good as doing a manual flush?cost would be a help as well i am reluctant to buy one but its hard work removing rads on a manual flush

I went on the Fernox powerflushing course last year.
It made me realise how much quicker and effective power flushing is against manual flushing.
My local hire shop only charges £30 a day so I haven't bought one.
I can't really recommend a particular make as I have only used a couple.

just bought a submersible pump, just for this purpose - pumps up to 3bar so will do ufh as well, connections are done with a paire of wash machine hoses ! cost in total about 400 quid and does every system you can think of.

I have the Fernox machine and IMO it is well designed. The only grumble is that it is heavy to move about (though I guess this is down to the size of the pump and can't be avoided with a big pump) and the castors could have been a bit bigger and stronger.

rothenberger are bringing out a new machine claiming to do up to a 20 rad system QUALITY!

if you can afford a rothenburger your earning too much Jambo, nice to see u back

i used to have the fernox machine....till i tried to flush a 3 story 18 rad system!! since then ive been using the kamco cf90 and i must say it knocks the socks off the fernox one. although it is more expensive in my opinion it's well worth it. along with their magnetic filter it works really well, get a vibraclean aswell.

Kamco they invented it! Do the course though its really worth it, I hear muppets not doing each radiator individually or saying its done after 20mins!

i am in the same boat is this powerflushing as good as its made out to be never used it before so would defo want to go on some sort of course is there any up in scotland as i see kamco office is way down south!! and who ever has one do you get alot of business from it??

Powerflushing is good provided it is done properly (such as isolating the cylinder coil when flushing radiators, connecting the flusher to the heating circuit and not through rad valves etc). Each radiator must be done in turn, changing the flow direction periodically, and where you have a large system, splitting it up into sections.)

Powerflushing will only clean the system pipework on single pipe systems and not the rads (you need to shut off the rad valves, then take of the rads individually and swill out outside)

The important thing to remember is that there must be no short cuts allowing it to bypass the rad you are wanting to clean.

You really don't need to go on a course. It is relatively simple and no two systems are the same. Usually you get comprehensive instructions with them.

Kamco for me, i have the clearflow pump and i think it's the dogs! Average flush takes around 5 hours( if done correctly) and is a lot easier than flushing manually, and you know the pipework is flushed to. Not cheap, but 3-4 jobs and you've got your money back. I did'nt bother with the course, they give detailed instructions and there helpline is very good.

I use kamco have a cf30 and magnetic bottle have cleared a system of 30 rads with FX2 where the boiler would run and switch off before heat moved into the system, customer had already had new pump fitted took me 6 hours but at the end he had 30 radiators working and a cylinder being heated and a mug full of sludge happy customer thought he needed to buy a new boiler
