Hi

Sorry for the noob question, but hopefully someone here may be able to help me.

I have a Worcester Bosch 40Cdi combo boiler. It was installed about 6 years ago. It is operated via a Worester Bosch Digistat Optimiser, which sounded like a good idea when I bought it, but had turned out to be a bit of a useless device that often loses its wireless connection - meaning I have no way of turning on the boiler for heating. I am therefore in the process of working out a good replacement for it. The current thermostat has its receiver as a plug in board on the front of the boiler. This also controls the hot water, so the board will remain.

I'm looking at Heatmiser Products and love the idea of controlling the heating via the internet. So might go down that route. This will entail fitting a new Wiring Centre, then one of their wired thermostats. I like a wireless life, I have a ton of wireless stuff, but when your heating goes wrong and you cannot work it - a wired solution has certain appeal. Anyway, their internet version has to be a wired connection to the thermostat.

So, here's my problem. I also have a wet underfloor heating system in my kitchen. This is a polyplumb overlay system with their controllers etc. I installed it - and I wired it. I'm not an electrician (by any sense of the imagination) however, I am not a complete idiot and used to help out an electrician, plus I built the kitchen, installed the U/F did all the tiling etc. I'm good with my hands (madam!). The underfloor heating had to be wired direct into the boiler, to bypass the stupid wireless receiver etc. I did this about 6 years ago and its never worked perfectly, but has always worked. It comes on every morning and evening etc. For the last few years, I thought that the Main radiators would only come on when the U/F was on as well. Today, I did some research and found that that's not true. What is true is BOTH need to be on for EITHER of them to work. I'm not sure if this is due to how I've wired them, but I have a vague memory of having problems wiring them and this was the only way that worked. It's clearly not right and as I am looking at installing a new wiring centre - for the new Main thermostat for my rads, then I need to sort it all out.

The U/F is simply an extension of the radiator circuit. It has its own wiring centre, own power, own pump plus valve etc. Also has its own thermostat to control it. Coming from the U/F wiring centre are 3 wires. Earth, Neutral and s/l (I presume that means switched live).

When this goes into the main wiring of the boiler I have the following options (on the boiler). Live, Neutral, Ns, Ls, LR

I have the boiler power going into Live and Neutral

I have the U/F cable going in to Ns and LR (i.e. neutral wire into Ns and Live wire into LR)

Is this correct?

Clearly it's probably not as it's not really working independently as I would have expected it to. i.e. I'd expect to be able to turn on either the Radiators or the U/F individually. Not have to have them both running at the same time. Should the Live be on the Ls perhaps?

If I get this working as it should - When I then install a new Thermostat, that will be via a new Wiring Centre, but presumably one wire will still leave that wiring centre to go to the same point on the boiler. Will that simply connect in the same way? i.e both U/F and new Thermostat will go into the new wiring centre - and then come out again as one wire to go to the boiler.

Sorry for the long list of questions - and awkward set-up. I do hope someone can understand my ramblings and solve my issue.

Paul
