I have just had my Apollo 15/30b boiler replaced with a worcester bosch 12Ri boiler.
I decided to keep the old honeywell ST699B timer / controller. It works fine, but I am having second thoughts now as I am having a new kitchen fitted and the controller doesn't look all that nice and the back box is starting to fall apart.
What controllers / timers can I get that are compatible?
Will any work? I was thinking of another honeywell unit as this was has lasted 25 years so they must be a decent make. Can I just go to the local Travis Perkins and get one from there?

I have decided on a Honeywell ST9400C. Will this work?
The system has a 3-way valve and I want separate hot water and heating controls.

Yes, it will work. But there may be a better solution.

What room thermostat do you have? If it's the traditional mechanical type you should change it for a digital version. A programmable thermostat would be the best, e.g Honeywell CM907 (wired) or CM927 (wireless).

As this only controls the heating, you will also have to buy a separate single channel timer for the hot water, eg Honeywell ST9100C. I have this system and it has never caused any problems. The HW controller is in the airing cupboard as it rarely needs altering - the occasional press of the boost button.

Another solution is the Honeywell Sundial RF² Pack 3, which is a two channel programmer with wireless room thermostat and wireless cylinder thermostat.

I have a iflo RF603 wireless room stat.

Not too keen on having two controllers. I have read the specs and the ST9400C does say that it has to channels, so heating and hot water can be controlled independently. Have I read this correct?
I want something that will be a straight swap with regard to the wiring, as I have just had the kitchen rewired and I don't want to go through that again. But I would like something that is a bit more flexible with how it can be programmed (e.g. holiday mode etc.).

That's a Drayton Thermostat re-badged for Travis Perkins.

As you already have this, your suggestion of the ST9400C is sensible. It has separate CH and HW times as well as a Holiday function.

As for wiring you need five wires: Live, Neutral, CH ON, HW ON and HW OFF.

The installer will know how to connect it.

All connected.
The ST9400C came with instructions showing how to retrofit it in place of other Honeywell controllers. So it was a very easy job. Only took me 10 minutes.
All is working well and it looks the part, and will look great when my new kitchen is fitten on Wednesday. It makes the old one look very silly in both looks and function and at £30 it was a bargain. 🙂
