I appear to have snapped this off, though it turned like a tap, but as it snapped off in my hand and i looked at it I realised it's not supposed to turn like a tap.

How big a job is it to put a new one in? can it be done without taking the boiler off the wall?

this is the part here i think, it looks like it anyway from the picture. the boiler is a greenstar junior 28i Combi

That's unlucky. You need to get someone in to replace that. Not a DIY job.
