Everything is working OK on my 10 year old boiler, except I have recently noticed a slightly damp patch on the carpeted floor roughly below the diverter valve.

It is not a serious leak, I suspect it might be coming from the brass bush where the diaphram needle comes through.

I fitted a new diaphram kit in the summer. Not knowing any better I did not apply anything to the needle or the hole it goes through, should I have? Or perhaps there is some other reason, wear due to age or something?

Any advice welcome... cheers.

kind regards,

boydell.

on some boilers the gland nut is replaceable usually comes with diaphram kit clean pin and silicon grease it first

It is most likely as you say the seal the pin goes through that is slightly damaged, this happens on this boiler due to age,can be repaired but you have to take divertor valve out and completely strip down, and replace seal, always silicon greese all pins when servicing valve and be carefull how you pull pins through seals,as if dirty one end ,will damage seal, usually only leaks when water tap is run,can stay a very small weep for ages, put a small container under for now ,see how bad the leak is,as said depends on hot water usage

leave it till summer, last thing you want is problems in this weather

Thank you for the replies so far - brilliant as ever!

Reading the replies... the thought has occured to me should there be a very small rubber "O" ring embedded in the gland where the spindle goes through which should be replaced?

The diaphragm kit I used only comprised a Giannoni diaphragm, and the spring as I recall, no "O" rings.

kind regards,

boydell.

it is a small 'o' ring in a white plastic seal housing that fits firmly in the divertor valve body, not sure if worcester provide them but other manufactors do and it is a standard valve

Thanks for that puddle,

I am thinking of replacing the diverter valve complete. Can you tell me if poor quality "pattern" spares are a problem to watch out for in the plumbing trade? If so how can I avoid them?

I understand a lot of the parts are not actually made by the boiler manufacturer themselves, but are fakes something to watch out for?

kind regards,

boydell.
