when a worcester greenstar has been run with low pressure and the kebab shaped heat exchanger has developed ribs, do worcester recommend a new heat exchanger. Does anyone know their official opinion

They advise to change it yes :)

These heat exchangers have a 10 year warranty on them though, so give worcester a call and they'll come and change it for free :)

thanks Tom,
does that mean if you find a severely ribbed one its AR or ID or neither

If its a combi and the you canna set the low co2 and the baffles won't come out then it's knackered. If its a conventional boiler then they can be ok I think. It's best just to give them a shout and check but don't mention the low pressure!

This is one heat exchanger that needs care, properly vented when drained and filled. Properly cleaned and washed out on every service. I don't fit them now unless I have no choice because of that heat exchanger.

As for classification if the combustion readings canna be set then its AR.

Also look out for the electrodes collapsing into the heat exchanger!

If the damage has been shown to be down to poor install work, low working pressure etc. they may not honor warranty though.

Not completely correct.
Ratio must be bellow 0.008 otherwise will be ID for a condensing appliance.

Worcester have now gone back on the ribbing. Was told that if its ribbed but operating correctly they wont replace it!
they used to just change them all.

Tell them it's not working properly, and leave it to them :)
