Worcester out of water

Correct me if Im wrong but shouldnt a worcester greenstar 28i junior cut out if theres no water in it ?

I went to a empty house to service the above boiler today and the guy doing the damp proofing had removed a radiator down stairs and not capped the TRV off and left boiler running too , there fore it opened the valve over night and emptied the water out of the system .
when I got there no one in went to said boiler and it was running on pre heat the pump was so hot that it had melted the presure gauge pipe running in front of it so when i tried to top it up water poored out every where.
the silly bugger should have left well alone now its a new pump and presure gauge plus god knows what else its damaged

but I thought the boiler would have cut out as the presure was too low ?

No but worcesters are one of the few that will. As said no low pressure switch on them.

Ye, the only protection is overheat, which really should have kicked in before doing that damage. I'd check it hasn't been linked out or something.

Overheat wouldn't stop the pump spinning its bits off due to the fact that the O/h miles away and plastic is a poor conductor!! As flow and return same temp no burner but demand never satisfied pumps aiming spin me round round like a record bayby right round. Seen one producing steam, pump was so hot it distorted the end washer and drops of water had gotten in to case and it was like a mini steam room!

Makes me laugh when you see them fitted by the hundreds in H.A properties, most of them are running with no pressure for half the year. Seen the heat exchangers warp more than once.

They really should have water pressure switches. I know it's a pain topping them up, but it saves on BIG bills.

Probably decided against it after a the trouble the low water switch gave the old rsf junior and the fact the amount that got linked out and left I've come across!

Yep will melt pressure hose on plastic ones on MK 3,4,5 on MK 1,2 the pipe was copper Doh, I move them on an ASV just in case, it's the pump that runs hot it melts it as been said

thanks guys yes it seems no presure switch is fitted ( probably because of the problems faced on the rsf junior modles as said above )
its a bit of a silly weak spot for such a good name though I'd expect it with sime,Ideal,raven heat and the likes but not worcesters .

are there any really good boilers left

Ideal? I would fit a logic for free before I accepted payment for fitting a Worcester! IMHO wb are ravenheat and simi quality trading on old glory from 1990s. Their share of the market is being eroded

If the greenstars had a ferroli or ravenheat badge on we would ridicule them for the poor design and rightly so, but whack a Worcester badge on the front and some folk cant get enough.
