For anyone that does, what are they like as employers?

There are not any trainee/apprentice vacancies available in the area (east London) at the moment.

Anyone know how often these opportunities arise?

Thanks

not a great deal, most of there work is contracted out so there not looking for trainee's.

if you go on the british gas academys website and sign up for job alerts that will tell you when and if a vacancy becomes available.

Have done, thanks.

It seems to be the best way of getting in to the industry, whilst earning enough to live on

to be fair ive heard some really bad things about working for them, i have a mate who works for them and he is vaery rarely at home, his money isnt bad, but even he admits to trying to rush a job to get home sooner etccc..

but obviously its your desiscion.

I turned down a job with them back in 2004, I wasnt really sure what my job role with them was, did they want a gas fitter or a salesman?.
But go for it Steak and Chips!get all you can from them.

I thought I saw an advert in the Daily Mail this week (full page) and it said that they were taking on 500 plumber/heating engineers nationwide and training them up.

Helpsy, did i say what areas hey were looking to employ people in?

I think working for British Gas would be a good springboard to learning about the trade and then maybe go self-employed

Can't remember mate but I'm sure it will be in the papers again.
