Hi, I have some questions about setting the thermostats and would appreciate some help. I would just set the programmer to twice a day but I'm concerned about power outages which we get a lot of so would like some advice.
If I set the thermostat for the pipes (numbers on dial start at 3 and end...
I have a central heating system and hot water tank (Y plan) heated by a conventional system Baxi Solo 2 60PF gas boiler (~20 years old) with a Grundfoss UPS2 pump and a combined 22mm feed/expansion pipe from a cold water tank in the roof. There are 11 radiators and 2 towel rails, I estmate...
I have a leak under my floor but having had 9 plumber visits this year no one has found it.
it seams it’s a small leak that must happen when pipes cool and contract.
I was wondering if there was a dye I could put in so I can trace where it has dried up.
I presume it’s dried before plumbers can...
Hello, recently my central heating stopped working and an engineer diagnosed the problem as being that the electrical connection point on the heating pump has partially melted, presumably due to the connection being poor. The pump is inside the boiler body. He recommended replacing the pump and...
Hey all, I'm relatively new to DIY pluming and I've found this forum super helpful so far This is my first time posting.
I've got a leaking isolating valve on one of the pipes running I think back to the boiler from just after the central heating pump. I'm pretty sure I've read that this...
Forgive me is this is a stupid thought!
I'm looking to flush dirty water out of an F&E system. Can I attached a hosepipe to the lowest drain off point and simply drain off water outside without turning off the water supply to the F&E tank? So my thinking is that it may take some time but...
Hi
I'm having a problem turning my central heating off. My indoor thermostat shows the heating is off, even though it is still on. There is an Altech receiver box next to our combi boiler which constantly has the green light on which tells the boiler to turn the heating on. I can only turn off...
Hi All,
I recently increased the pressure to the central heating using the built in filling loop. In doing so, I noticed there is water dripping from the bottom of the pipe that the filling loop is connected to ( the pipe that allows water to the enter the system). This also looks like it is...
Hi,
The boiler is coming on when the timer clock is set to off. Because the timer clock is off no motorised valves open and so no heat gets around the house but the radiator nearest the boiler gets hot, (obviously not controlled by the valves).
Why would this happen?
The control box was...
Hi all,
Earlier today I was trying to get a few floorboards up to get access and one of the 15mm pipes came out of its brass tee connector with the ensuing wet face and mad panic that a bar of water can give you. I popped a bucket under the fountain (it was pointing ceiling way) and ran down...
I have a house over three floors with three heating zones. Ground floor is UFH and newish, the 1st and second floor are radiator zones.
Historically the radiators don't get very hot on the top floor, however I've just switched them on for the first time since last winter and they are the best...
Today I partially emptied the central heating system (1st floor and loft) so that I could disconnect an old towel rail and install the pipe work ready for the new towel rail. All went well and I have two capped pipes sticking out of the wall where the new towel rail will be fitted.
Having...
This is what it looks like. It has been inspected and it is still servicable just needs cleaning up and painting.
Yes, I know it's ancient and could do with replacing but so is the owner and funds are limited.
Has anyone in PF land got any idea of how the gauge works? Is it a float mechanism...
Needing to change a radiator in bathroom and will need to change out trv and lock shield. On the bottom radiator I have this valve but no drain off attachment. What can I add to this to attach a pipe to drain off.
central heating radiators to feed upstairs and downstairs main paperwork runs in ceiling void downstairs ,need to tee off to radiators downstairs do I tee off from above or below on the main
pipework to avoid airlocks
The house has a gravity heating system. I replaced an old failing pump Grundfos UPS 15-50 (130) with Grundfos UPS3 15-50/65 130
I have drained the system and bleed the radiators for air.
The problem is that since replacement of pump boiler Glow warm (about 15 years old) comes on for about 5...
Hi all,
Not posted for some time but come up against a small problem.
Been off the tools for many years now but I think I know the issue but looking for some reassurance
Boiler isn't firing when programmer and room stat is calling for heating, but does for HW.
It's a Y plan system, new house...
I'm looking to expand my central heating system by adding a new bathroom UFH zone. I'm also changing the pipes feeding the loft radiators to 22mm, instead of 15mm.
Early discussions with my heating engineer talked about introducing a Low Loss Header and one or more additional pumps.
The...
