I have a conventional gravity fed copper cylinder which is about 30 years old and planning to change to a direct mains fed hot water tank. Boiler is Gas and new (2-3 years old). I understand directed feed tanks need a drain outlet and a 22mm mains feed so that will add to the time but how long...

Glowworm Micron 80FF boiler, boiler fires up (for very short periods, a few seconds) but does not heat the radiators but it heats the hot water tank. What could the possible problem be?
Thanks
I've got an old heating system in my house, Baxi back boiler and 8 rads. Some of the rads have been getting warm at the top but cold at the bottom. I took one out and flushed it through. It took nearly an hour with a hose before I could get a clean flow! I though I would run some Sentinel X400...
Attached is an image of the gledhill combi tank in my newly purchased flat.
I can't work out what the second pipe going into the top of the tank does, and cant find any info on the internet.
Please can someone advise?
I think its a Gledhill economy 7 direct combi tank.

Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong area.
2 storey house, combi downstairs, cold water tank in loftwhich is leaking via the overflow.
Question is, do I still need the cold water tank?
As you may have guessed my plumbing knowledge is minimal.
Thanks in advance.
Hi All. I have a fast dripping overflow. Apparently the ballcock in the cold water tank is rusty and 'on it's last legs'. How easy a job is it to replace DIY or how much should I expect to pay a plumber to come out and do it? Thanks :)

new to this forum and the world of plumbing. I've got a issue that two plumbers have so far failed to resolve and is driving me round the bend.

Had a ball valve replaced on the cold water tank a couple of weeks ago. Later that day the system developed an airlock. It happens as the cold tank is refilling, and makes an awfully loud humming. Other than calling the plumber back can I fix it myself.. ?
I've tried turning the water off at...
Leaking hot water tank from Albion Water Heaters 1200 x 450 Grade 3, 162 litre vented cylinder
We had a new hot water tank installed 3 years ago and the leak probably started 1-2 years after installation judging by the build up of scale/residue around the leak, and the amount of water under the...
Hi, I want to improve the thermal contact between the hot water tank and the thermostat. The old one had some sort of silvery paste. Anyone know what it is and where to get it - or can i use any high melting point grease?
would the heat sink pastes for computers do the same job?
cheers

We considered a combi boiler but was told by British Gas because of our low water pressure, this would not suffice. I had a feeling that would...
Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for some advice as to what the loud clunking noise is that occurs when the cold water feed is activated in my house - either from a tap, toilet, washing machine, dishwasher etc.
The symptoms seem to occur if the cold water has not been accessed for an hour or so. An...

Hi all
I hope someone can help me identify what my tank/water heater is. Ideally I'd like to find out make and model and look up an instruction manual/find out more about it. If it helps I live in a small block of flats (6 flats) that were built mid-1980s
Thanks a lot
