before i work on any appliance now i get customer to show me all the other appliances working as ive been accused of non working appliances that i never touched .

I agree with you villa, I don't think it's creating work. However before the panel was touch, the cust should have been taken to the appliance and shown the crack, then this situation might not have happened

she was standing right beside me when i said "there's something wrong here....i may have to turn the fire off" and then i picked up the broken panel....she watched me remove it and then said i broke it!!!

That's fine, it's just not clear from first post sometimes you just get cust who want something for nothing and you get to be the scapegoat

so if coals are knackerd you ar the fire? what terms of knakered are we stating here? i would turn a fire off if the coals were falling apart and it was effecting flame picture, but just old coals that look a bit naff/nakered i just leave aslong as flame picture looks good? am i being to leniant here? i dont service many fires to be honest!

i had a job last year where a customer requested we went through the garage. When i openend the garage door the cable snapped the door buckled and jammed. The customer was there immediately demanding my company paid for a new door which whey did. Some people are just out to con us.

Comes down to your professional opinion!
As you mention, coals falling to bits then AR. A wee bit rough round edges and starting to loose their colour I would just recommend new coals.
At a Straxgas Ecotec today. The front ceramic rail is quite tight to remove and you have to be careful. Some heavy handed muppet has split it into 3 pieces trying to remove it, so had to AR the fire.
