Hi all, Just to pick your brains really!!

Not long finshed a complete refit of and old property, underfloor thoughout down stairs plus a couple of rads to top up small rooms, upstairs rads thoughout, total 16 rads + underfloor, heat only boiler, s plan system ie. 3 two ports hot water, under floor and rads, 28mm pipe work to under floor and on round reducing to rads, sealed system with a 24ltr expantion vessel.
The system has been up and running for a while, fully for 2 months, power flushed round under floor to get all the air out, chemical flushed and added 3 bottles os inhibitor.
The customer is still venting some air though the rad circuit, thus dropping pressure also though boiler aav.

now the question??

do you think that it is just residule air from start up, lots of pipe winding round an old house?

customer is concerned that not enough inhibitor added and there is hydrogen being produced!

any thoughts, I'm of the impression that it is residule air!

all thoughs welcome??

Honestly? Your custard could be on to something :(

Unusual but not un-common for a certain rad to collect 'gas', air or otherwise! Reason could be hydrogen! Water sample test is possible, so I've heard, but have no idea how to get it set up :)

Thanks Dimond, I thought 3 bottles would be enough although it is pts own stuff (treats up to 300ltrs), with that in mind would you think that one of the fernox or sentinel test kits would work on a generic brand inhibitor??

Try fitting an altecnic auto fil or similar so you dont have the call backs. The cheaper option is a PRV from screwfix (about £23) fitted on filling loop and adjusted down to about 1.5 bar

Honestly it depends on reputation and the custard? Want to get to the bottom of it for there, and your, benefit then pull back some of the profits. Otherwise stand and argue but maybe loose future custom? Your client has an issue they're not happy with ... maybe valid, maybe not! They now look your way to resolve :) Coz they haven;t got a clue, or do but aren't letting on!!!

End of the day mate this is your call! If you value them, give them the benefit of the doubt and have it tested, otherwise argue ....! Maybe compromise on cost/responsibility! Sounds a tough place to be!
