Bath drains intermittently - bit gurgly too

Care to repost your post about being unable to unblock a kitchen sink and it being the second one to beat you in a month and asking how a plumber did it in 5 minutes.

I've asked before but need help again!!

I've got a job where a kitchen sink is blocked.

I've taken the trap etc. apart and all clean.

I've tried one shot, plunged it, wire down the drain pipe but nothing.

This is the 4th time I've had it where the trap/pipes are clear.

On the last one I failed on the custard told me it was fixed in 5 minutes but didn't know how!!

Any thoughts?

gas man, I don`t feel the need to pm you at the moment as I think the heat has been taken out of the matter for now at least. Think of it as two schoolboys squaring up and one made a veiled threat.

Wow - first of all thanks all for your thoughts and suggestions - but no fighting please!

I should have said in my first post that I did put some unblocker stuff down the bath drain a few weeks ago, but clearly its not had a lasting effect (I used "Buster Bath Unblocker" - no discolouration of any of the chrome (I was very careful!)). So, based on your responses I probably shouldn't put anything else down there? Or if I do, stick to the same brand? There's no problem with the basin draining - although I have removed a faulty pop-up plug so it's just a gaping pipe at the moment - not very attractive and needs fixing.

Re: the point about the drain being removable, I'm not sure I entirely understand which bit you're referring to, but if its the chrome bit that's actually in the bath, then it looks like you can unscrew it to clean underneath - is that worth doing?

I think I might take some photos - not necessarily of the undraining bath, but of the marks on the lino and the water seepage from the toilet and see if I can get any action from the landlady. I have pointed it out before but not sure that the message got from letting agent to landlady/ Rentokill damp guy who came round ages ago.

Don't unscrew anything! Get the landlord in to sort it out, get the loo leak sorted, get the basin waste sorted. Sounds like he has had a typical cheap landlords toshup job done on the bathroom.

Note: items known to block bath and shower waste include hair, fake tan, hair gel, body hair remover, hair root dye, ladies shaving residue, shower gel, and a 9 year old child blocking the waste overflow with toilet paper to cause a flood so he could get off school! That last one was me, and it worked!

Thanks Radioman - I've reported it to the letting agent as I think you're right. We've noticed that the drain outside is overflowing so I think there must be a big blockage or something somewhere - definitely beyond just slugging some OTC unblocker stuff down.

It would be good to get a proper plumber in anyway, rather than my letting agent's handy man, as he's dismissed my concerns about the bathroom before

The trouble is letting agent will probably use their loyal workers. Push for a plumber & not a handyman
