Baxi Platinum+ Combi Controls

Hi,

To cut a very long story short, Baxi are offering me a Platinum+ 40KW Combi as an alternative to a Megaflo Cylinder that has broken down. However, they are not providing labor costs so I will need to have my own plumber undertake the works. This boiler will effectively replace a 14 year old Vailant EcoTec 637 System boiler which runs 21 radiators and a UV Megaflo.

A couple of things I wanted to ask about is what controls are compatible with the Baxi Platinum+, which timer / kit should I ask them to bundle with it. I'd like to use some kind of smart thermostat / timer. Although, I suspect that I could use my existing Drayton timer / programmer and Honeywell Thermostat.

The other question is in relation to the internal boiler expansion vessel. The current Vailant has an internal 10 litre one and the Baxi has the same. However, the Baxi manual makes a statement that if using more than 15 radiators, then an external EV should be used. However, I've never had an issue with the current one. My plumber did say it probably should have an external one but if it's been like this for 14 years with no issues, then sees no harm in leaving it.

Thanks in advance... To be clear, I will be using a Gas Safe plumber to perform the necessary works but I want to ensure that I ask Baxi for everything I should be asking them to throw in with the boiler.

1 bath, 2 showers. Our water pressure is a gating factor anyway.

Tbh I would recommend replacing the unvented cylinder with another one you would struggle to use both at the same and also would cost you more in labour than just replacing the cylinder

I could do that but both are in loft, both liabilities 🙂. 40KW combi states 16.4 litres a minutes which is more than we get from mains anyway.

At 35 dc heat rise so winter time you could be getting 35-40c hot water

Having tried running the bath tap at my parents today which have a Worcester 30CDI, I was shocked at the difference in hot water temp between that and what I get from our UVC. I may have to rethink the replacing cylinder with combi idea.

We recommend City Plumbing Supplies, BES, and Plumbing Superstore for all plumbing supplies.
