So you've been charging those rates for seven years?

Hi Leo,These rates may well have been a little lower early on.I was in fact learning on the job and priced accordingly as was recommended on here.I also remember checking on here when experienced plumbers were working for £100 a day and were glad of it.Better than Jeremy Kyle etc.You are also fixating on a £40 figure which was given as an example.I was trying to establish a rate for boiler repairs in the busy winter period. These are different from a day rate where it may be for e.g £40/50 first hour and £20/25 per hour after.None of the info. I put in my reply was a 'state secret' it is part of my profile, available to all.In any case I put this thread in the PRIVATE FORUM.

£40 per hr is taking the pi$$. You shouldnt think about it as what the customer is willing to pay, its what youre willing to except

We're all entitled to our opinion!

I started for myself to make time and with that enough money! With what I charge I make loads of time and more than enough money :) Start 9:30ish, finish 2-3ish, don't work weekends, don't do call out or stupid hours :) I guess if I charged twice as much I could work even less hours .. hmmmmmmm! I'm happy with my lot however and have a blessed life to-boot :)

My mistake, I now know its in the private forum. I understand where your coming from with the higher rates for winter.
But you don't want to alienate your customers in there time of need, I'm not saying be cheap. But with some of those rates you quote you won't be getting repeat business, specially when it's warmer and they have more time and choice because it's not urgent and we're not so busy.
£40 per hour is to cheap for breakdowns.

I dont charge a call out. I charge £60 an hour for repairs charged to nearest 15 minutes. Most repairs end up as a flat rate repair of £60 plus parts with a minimum 20% over the vat price mark up, but typically only on parts I can buy on good terms from my supplier.
A half day job is £150, a full day is £200. Diagnosis alone is £40. Stupidity repairs are either £40 or £60 depending on my mood and the customer.
