Spoke to an elderly client today who has the Homecare 200 policy with BG.
She told me they had quoted her 400 quid to fit a magna cleanse.
I know BG are notorious for this sort of thing but it does seem OTT.

I told her I would do it for almost half that, and her jaw dropped.
I don`t know how they get away with it time and time again.

use a centramag trappex,i am now using these instead after a few magnas went a bit incontinent, well impressed with it as a filter

What they like price wise Gas man?
Too be honest APP, have never done one before and thought this sounded reasonable.
Any tips?

I love it when bg have already quoted for a job before i get there because all i have to do is knock a grand off and im quids in

I am currently working on a bathroom refurbishment for a customer. On trying to drain down their gravity system it became obvious there was a blockage. I cut into feed pipe and sure enough was badly blocked/sludged up.
I told the customer I would replace the feed pipe in the loft ( 4m run) and see if it drains /fills after that, it didnt!
She said she had insurance through British Gas so I told her to call them .
She had a new boiler fitted 2 years ago by british Gas and it was flushed at the time!! I dont think so!! it looked like 20 years of solid sludge!
She has her system serviced every year by british gas!
When a British Gas engineer came out to clear the blockage the next day while I wasn't there, all I can see he has done is hit the feed pipe ( at the H section) enough to badly dent the pipe to get it clear!! no pipework replaced and no powerflush!! is this really how they work??

So whats that Mike a powerflush then an additional Magnacleanse install??
If so, I expect they woulda charged a hell of a lot more than 400.

Bg never clean the heating system im forever going to boiler where bg have fitted them and it never clean, a mate of mine used to install for them and he told me that they dont get given enough time to do it correctly, if it wasnt for there name they would be out of business in my opinion

No magna cleanse is just 2 big magna cleans with hoses that connect to fitting of the unit the you leave in and the boiler becomes pump, it cost around £300 - £350 for the kit i think( not 100% sure though) they are better than a power flush as it always keeps cleaning the system

Part of a BG boiler service does`nt involve any draining/flushing of the system.
Perhaps some inhibitor but thats about it.

Fair enough Jrmurray, did`nt know that.
Perhaps it was a magna cleanse flush after all.
I`ll enquire with the lady tommorow.
