i have recently moved into a new home. Last weds the heating and hot water completely shut off. Rang british gas home care n they sent a bloke out he said needed a new fan which he fitted yesterday afternoon. Before he left he turned on the heating and hot water. The heating kicked in but wouldnt shut off the room temp on thermostat said 25 n kept rising until i had to switch heating off. Even after putting the temp at 17 on thermo it kept rising.

The hot water is fine and is coming out at the temp it was on tues. Tried puttin heating on this morning n did same thing

We think the engineer pressed the override button but not sure. Just wondered if anyone knew what buttons we can press so that we can put the heating back on n adjust it with on wall thermo, n not be sat here sweltering.

It seem the manuals have been taken by previous owners

sounds like you have a fault relating to the room stat, if your under the BG contract get them back to take a look. you could also turn down the stat on the boiler. Im not sure what controls the boiler has but there should be a dial for heating that can be adjusted?

This is a picture of the front of it. IMG-20121111-WA0000.jpg

Dont wanna mess n do something that costs me a fortune, thats why sending pic

Hope that helps

I believe there is a manual operated override service mode on these that means it will run to max temperature.
Appears to have been left in this mode.
Get them straight back out.

Meant to add.
Where this service mode selector is located is not really accessible for the unqualified person

Thank you very much been back in touch they coming back out this afternoon to fix it
