Okay,

As far as I know, we're pretty much fully working now and on the new domain and software. I have a few things I still need to setup and install. But I'm now taking bug reports. So if you see anything weird going on, or something not working properly. Please report it. Either in this forum in it's own new thread, or in this actual thread. I'll pick up either.

When Iclick on a new post when I’ve read it up to date it stays in The new post list

The reason we're using that is to reduce small posts. Which have a drastic effect in Google these days. My theory is, if it can't be said in a small sentence, then it could be done with a smiley face.

A few sentences are required really. Not just even 5 words.

And if you circumvent the system, you're likely going to be put in the troll group which makes ALL your posts sit in a mod queue until we are around to approve your bigger posts, and delete all the rest. So you're wasting your own time and the time of the moderators.

Thanks Dan, it's very useful.

Hi Dan,

Not sure if this is relevant, but it must have kept me logged in from yesterday and came up with this in the alerts (old platform used to come up with “you need to be logged in to do that). Scott_d replied tomorrow?

Thanks,
Chris.

No worries. While I’m on here and clicking buttons. On a mobile is there a way of going back to unread posts once you have read one without going through menu and new posts?

The 'Resources' list is showing duplicates. Possibly as a side-effect of posts being updated.

I find, 'Resources' a non-intuitive title for what is apparently a 'Find a Plumber' section. I'd expect a 'Resources' section to have things like data tables, specifications, codes of practice, etc. You could call it 'Find a Plumber' and then shorten the subcategory titles to 'In England', 'In Devon', etc.

Look again Chuck, no duplicates just different areas covered. ;)

I'm not sure what you see, but when I click the Resources tab I see a list of five 'services' in the main panel. Three of these are unique, two of them (DND Services, Lismore Plumbing) are duplicates differing only in the 'Updated' time-stamp.

Lets look at DND then, one is for West Yorkshire whilst the other one is for North Yorkshire hence two listings and the same goes for Lismore.

Ah, I see what you mean. Maybe not a bug, then, but IMO one entry per per provider would be nicer OR filter the list to show only offers available in my region.

It will eventually have a few resources and tools in there. The directory is just one category (with many sub categories). It'll have a shop in there too soon. So members can sell stuff etc. That bit is in its infancy so perhaps less bug reports on that lol my bad.

Forum is okay though?

Forum is okay though?
So far so good from my PoV. Only issues/comments I have are matters of taste. For example:

I use a desktop not a phone for access and I'd prefer a bit less white space around things.

I find the pop-up text that snaps up whenever the cursor moves over an element, such as a post title, distracting to the point of being irritating.

The range of font sizes is a bit extreme. For example, the quoted text appears at about half the size of the body text in a post. A 20% reduction in size is enough to be quite noticeable without affecting readability.

The 'sad' and 'angry' flags are not really applicable and convey no useful information. Can they be replaced with 'agree' and 'disagree', please? I think these are both useful in the context of the sort of discussions that are hosted here.

Nice feedback. I'll take it on board but not sure I'll be changing the whole forum for one member.

The quoted text is meant to just be a reference, you'd click the post to go to it if you were not already involved in the thread. If you were involved you'd use it as a reference I guess.

The 'tooltip' pop-up text can be disabled. But for people who are scrolling over lots of search results (and thread titles) it can be handy, rather than opening each thread to see whats in it.

So I kinda see where you're coming from, but it's been carefully crafted to be the way it is for the masses I guess.

Keep the input coming though.

Why on earth would you want to reply a dozen times on a page, and not just edit your one reply with the content of your dozen posts? You just trying to knock you post count up?

If you reply within 90 minutes, it will kick in. If you have a thread you reply to weekly with an update for example, that wont kick it in.

It's staying.

The forum needs income to run. Like any business. But it's optional. So just don't. Can't be more clear than that matey.
Nothing to do with post count here and infact I have often been critical of those that blatantly post for this very reason saying that I prefer quality over quantity.

Evening, whilst playing around on the phone earlier I came across a sub forum named "Child forum" or Child something, anyway can`t find it via the laptop. Does that mean anything to you?

A child forum is one below an actual forum. So a sub-forum. The wording shouldn't be used anywhere in the actual forums though. That's for development reasons.

Where was it you saw it?

It might have been a processing error for a forum name. If I'm sending out large emails (which I did yesterday) the processes on the forum are often queued up so we stay online. So perhaps it just didn't load the name of the sub forum properly while that was going on.

A forum in the same category of another forum are called siblings too. So you might see that when the error is knocking around. So look out for that word too.

Can't replicate it myself right now though so can't say more I'm afraid.
