Back from cornwall, still having the same problem. Wife had no heating while i was away. I have bridged out the receiver, switched power on and diverter moved into position, boiler fired up but then cut out 10secs later. At a loss now.
also have had a leak in kitchen from prob bathroom above whilst i was away....it never rains but it pours eh..

Which potterton boiler?.

The leak was not from a hot water pipe was it? If it was it could be keeping the boiler in hot water mode

I think that the poster should get a heating engineer in to sort it out!

apology for late reply, been working away again.

Anyway problem fixed, thanks to the helpful people on here like tamz, who actually take time to give advice and help other people. Not just state "get a heating engineer to sort it out".

Followed your advice tamz, bridged out the wireless stat and proved that faulty. fitted new receiver and temp stat and now works a treat..thanks, saved me paying a lot of money out for a heating engineer!

Who said that you would pay a 'lot of money' for a heating engineer' one worth his salt could have diagnosed and solved your problem on site quickly.

Heating engineers don't get their qualifications, certifications, test equipment, insurances and experience for now't so why should we go overboard giving it to 'know nothings' for free???
If your too mean to pay say £50 for a site visit by a professional then there is little hope for the economy!

Yep i understand that, and i know there are a lot of genuine honest hardworking engineers out there. But trying to find one that is and not one thats gonna fleece you is a job in itself. We`ve all seen watchdog or cowboy builders. There are a lot of tossers out there. And as you say, in this economy i have not got the money to spend way over what it genuinely should cost to fix. Also, although i have not trained as a heating engineer or plumber i am far from a know nothing, i do have a background in engineering and felt that with a bit of sound advice i could give it a go fixing it myself. If i was at all worried about the size of the task i would get a expert in.
Any way, i am by no means having a go here, just pointing out i was trying to save a bit of money by trying to fix a problem myself.
