But in all honesty nobody has to justify what they charge!

1. marking up parts is totally acceptable as you have to do the runing around to order and pick up, most shops mark everything up by at least 50%. plus customer will exspect you back for free if a part you fit fails etc. so you have to build this into your price.

2. what ever you charge is up to you. and if your good at your job and customer is happy with quote then no problem NO MATTER what you charge imo

3. i dont do broken down quotes for installs, as my discount is my discount not customers! they are either happy with price or they go somerwere else, but i would say do a good job, neat tidy and courteous and price will become irrelevent almost to your customers

so guys, do you mean you charge £50 for the first hour and then £25 an hour afterwards? Or do you actually mean £25 per half hour after the first?

£50 for the first hour or part thereof, after the first hour then it is £25 per half hour or part thereof. so, 1hr 15 mins would be £75 whereas 30 mins would be £50.

that's what i'd ideally charge and often do. but when i'm less busy i tend to allow myself to be swayed by guesses as to what the customer will/won't pay and often drop down to £40 for first hour, £25 for subsequent hours to make sure i get the work.

when i'm feeling busy and flush next i might do an experiment and see how many jobs i actually lose by never dropping below £50 first hour, £25 per half hour afterwards. even if it's 1 out of 5 it's prob worth not getting those jobs just to make more on the rest.
