Hi,

Having recently started up on my own i'm finding i get at least one call a week from someone who's combi's broken down- Having only been on the installation side of things i've never really got that involved in the really technical stuff.
Short of going to work with a breakdown specialist, is anyone aware of any decent literature available that goes a bit further than just the basics, ideally fault finding on the electrical side of things and in what sequence this should be carried out. There's got to be something out there, if not there should be as i'm sure i'm not the only one who hates missing out on a job, leaving the customer to find another maybe not so honest, company who declare the boiler's f*cked and they need a new one without even having the cover off!

Sounds like you would benefit from attending one of the courses that the boiler manufacturers run. Pick a reputable one and you should pick up enough basics to give you a chance with all other makes,

Have been on the case today -Vailiant and Ideal both do courses in my area (norwich) best thing is if you sweet talk the rep rather than phone up the head office you can get it for free! :) cheers anyway graham
