Had an email from a customer wanting a price to swap a Ferroli combi to an Ideal logic+. As the job is about 30 miles from where I live, really can't be arsed going, spending an hour looking the job over then being undercut by a tenner. Just wondering what you guys charge for a straight swap. By the way, it's one of these "Is it cheaper if we supply and you fit? Can get a boiler of tinternet for £***"

is it consdensing for condensing? do you need a condense pump? its the gas supply the corrrect size? does the current boiler position break any standards? will you get the correct flue clearances? how much copper will you need? does the system require power flushing? do you need to upgrade the controls? any trv's needed? what flooring is above and will it need lifting?

these are some of the questions i would really want to know. can you ask for pictures? price the job on at least a full day's money and decent amount of materials but put in writing that materials costs may change. Then list some extras like power flush if needed is £250, trv's if needed £30 etc.....

If you don't want to travel that far then why bother? Tell them £50 to come and size up for materials to quote, refundable on obtaining the job :)

Without looking at it I would price atleast 2 days labour as you dont know what you are walking into. Very rarely do you get a strait swap, gas pipe the right size, easy condense run, crystal clear water in the central heating etc.

most times when customers start saying, is it cheaper if we supply and you fit, or we can get a boiler for £***, your dealing with timewasters. if you've got other work, then might be better to just give it a body swerve. i'd give him a price over the phone, but i'd make sure it was a 'top' end price.

I don't mind if custards want to supply their own bits, I just tell them that their warranty will be between themselves and their supplier.
Any additional work done by me is chargeable, they usually see sense and if they don't then that's their look out.

"is it cheaper if we supply and you fit" You turn up to do the job no flue/ no pipe/ no fittings /no inhibitor/ no cleaner/ no timer/ no stat and probably a second hand Boiler. .so you end up running round and getting things out of your van all day and they think it is Included in the price
