Got to custards house, started Powerflush, should be easy, 6 rads, Powerflush connected in 20 mins, start her up and water is dropping like a log. Go to loft to see the cwsc is full to brim. Thinking its a primatic cylinder, cold main must of been 1 litre per minute, I drain down and disconnect cylinder, flush system, drain down and refill. Pump makes hurrendous noise, drain down again and fill up, still not working, water overflowing into f and e, hot water is dirty, aggghhh. Must be a split cylinder!!
 
You mean a split coil?
 
And to top it off, try to get paid and card machine not connecting, road works on way home takes me 15 minutes out of my way. Get home 10.30 pm, was it worth the hassle?? He'll no!!
 
I notice that quite often people only consider the possibility that it 'could be a primatic cylinder' when something goes wrong. What's the best way to identify if it's a primatic before you start?
 
the word Primatic written on the side is the easiest id method :)

So obvious but so true aswell. They're so rare now that I don't think you can blame someone for not realising at the outset.

@jase - I know this thread isn't about a primatic cylinder but it's now been hijacked, sorry.
 
Writing on outside was faded and couldn't see it, the flow was higher then usual and it looked like the feed and vent had been added by a diyer, lots of plastic, lots of ups and downs etc, cylinder looked very old, still unsure wether it is coiled or primatic!! Will find out when BG go and change it.
 
There were probably thousands of primatics fitted up this way. Very common on solid fuel bbu heating then converted to gas in the 80's 90's.
You know by looking at it. Usually 1" gravity revolves with no expansion or feed off the cylinder. Look in the loft, no header tank. If there is still a label or tag on it, it may not say primatic but will say single feed.

If you were Powerflushing then surely you would go to bung the cold feed & vent on header tank in loft...

If you go in loft to find no header tank then it would have been clear its a primatic system before attempting a powerflush?
