Discuss Evohome firing boiler even when both heating and hot water set to OFF in the Boilers area at Plumbers Forums

We have an evohome system, that controls both hot water and heating
Heating is linked to two zone valves, and the full 12 allowed zones
Switch heating to off, and hot water to off too
Check smart meter at the end of the day and see 70p+ has been used on Gas (not standing charge, just usage - 10KWh)
Have coped with this over summer by turning off boiler (turning low) and using immersion heater for water, but with temperatures soon cooling down will want to switch to heating and gas hot water - worried that we'll be wasting heat by the boiler firing when it's not needed

Any ideas please?

OP you do realise it’s cheaper to heat water using gas ? Electricity is more expensive

Understood, although we have solar panels (and batteries), so in summer it actually works better for us to use electricity - especially with this issue! Once we have fixed the issue we will switch to gas

Thanks for the tip tho

so using your solar is much better. We have solar so know the benefits to our bank balance

Have you checked your hot water schedule? It may be that your boiler is getting a hot water demand from your controller due to the time of day that your schedule is set to. Even if your hot water is turned off on your controller it will still demand hot water from the boiler if the schedule says it needs to switch on hot water.
