hannah, dont worry, you will get used to the whichever one you use at college and probably just stick with that, or you will find an employer and use what he/she does.

something to bear in mind though with rising solder prices is that more plumbers are using the cheaper leaded solder on all non-potable applications powerflow flux (the yellow tubs) is specifically for lead free solder as it is allegedly to aggressively corrosive for leaded solder

I am interested to know more about where you have got your facts from here about Powerflow flux and leaded solder. I read your post and asked at the merchants today and they said Powerflow flux can be used for both types of solder. Just checked the fernox website and it says ...Powerflow flux the ideal flux for lead free solder, suitable for both lead containing and lead free solder alloys.

At one time it said it on the tub I think. It may have changed since fernox took over
