We have two boilers, a heating one and a water one, both of which are in a cupboard in our box room. In that room, there is always a constant, but sometimes very faint, smell of garlic or onions. It gets stronger when the heating is on and goes though into the bathroom, and sometimes can be so bad you have to hold your breath when you are in there, its so bad it can make you wrech. We live in a 300 year old cottage, so the floor boards and eveything are quite old. Whether this contributes, I dont know.
I have had my landlord round a few times about the smell (and they are very good landlords who have gone out of their way to help us a lot), but of course, the smell hasnt been here whenever they are here!
What could it be? Its a Baxi Solo WM 30 4 RS

As a landlord myself, I would have got a gas safe chap or chapess round to do gas safe checks. Have you got your yearly gas safe certificate?

We only moved in here in September, and that was when they were checked, and the plumber recommended a couple of changes to the vents on the outside of the wall, but that was it.

Had a simular one the other week, smell was like sprouts and cabbage, it turned out to be flue gasses leaking from the boiler flue, get some one round to check it out propely

I think that it is very difficult for anyone to diagnose this problem without being able to have the smell there when your looking, I wouldn't like to hazard a guess. Hopefully, someone gas qualified will be able to give you a better idea. Sorry, I've got no useful suggestions

Must be checked by a gas safe chap though.........better safe than sorry.

We had a strange fishy smell for a while. Turned out to be a switch with a poor connection, causing heat. In the end it burned out, which is when we realised what it was.

could be pocs or a pcb on its way.it needs checking on the solos the fan /airswitch plug can break down but you shouldent smell this as the boilers room sealed

co detectors cost an hours wage, and should be fitted next to any gas burning appliance imho, that way when you smell fish coming out of your boiler at least you will know it aint gonna kill you !!
