category 1 applicents (cen1-boilers plus cpa1) (£120) any good

what certs do i need to work on domestic gas????
ie to be able to get gas safe registerd
im asking so when i go to start a plumbing/gas course
so i know what i need and not get fobed off

you can get gsr with ccn1 but to be able to work on each appliance you need training on those fields too, you also cant pass without experiance, need to find your self a job

so what do i need to be gsr then mate
so what is the (cen1-boilers plus cpa1)

If you want to work on cookers – you’ll need CKR1, fires – HTR1. Unvented ticket is good to have too.

CCN1 Core Gas Safety
CPA1 Combustion Performance Analysis
CEN1 Central Heating
CCN1 Domestic Core Gas Safety

its got citb intermediate gas cert
covering:
legislation
tightness testing
pipe work requirements
gas safty controls
flueing
ventilation
unsafe siuations
im gessing its not what i need to be gsr then ???

its a mine field is this plumbing lark.
But basically to do most wet work ie non unvented stuff all you need is customers and insurance.
But to do gas don`t waste 4 grand on a course as you have been posting on here long enough to know better

sounds like your doing ccn1, at college, go do the rest somewhere and register your self to gas safe and pay 400 quid and you'll be their

ok lands throw me a line here im in the deep end
how much is it going too cost too be gsr
were can i get all the certs in one go HELP

and after iv got all the certs how much is it to be gsr

mickie thanks m8 and thats on top of all the plumbing too my head is spining lol

the prices you are quoting sound like re-assessment training and assessment, and you mention CAT1 which is someone who is already qualified, as far as i can see you have never been gas qualified so you will be a CAT 3 which will require a portfolio of evidence to be completed and a CAT 3 course to be taken, there are different ones, the bpec one i run is 28 weeks full time doing theory and placement to get portfolio, there are others, be careful where you go and how much you pay, again can only comment on mine but we allow candidates to organise their own placement (subject to meeting criteria) for a reduced price

CCN1 Core Gas Safety
CPA1 Combustion Performance Analysis £495 for ccn1 & cpa1

CEN1 Central Heating £130
CCN1 Domestic Core Gas Safety £170

£795 plus gsr £400 =£1195

As Kirkgas has said, you'll need to be able to prove experience either as a Category 1 (previously registered) or through a portfolio of work carried out under a Gas safe registered engineers guidance.
If you're new its not just a case of how much does it cost, unless you've got that portfolio then it doesn't matter how much money you throw at it, they wont let you take the ACS exams.
Be wary of anyone saying you can waltz straight into the ACS without it.

thanks m8 im just trying to build u a pic of what i need to be gsr and a plumber
as you say most courses out there offer loads but only half is werth doing
so when it comes to it
if thay say you get this this and this to be a gsr/plumber i can say yes but i need this too?????????? not all the uther stuff
i dont want too be ripped off

at least 1 year gas installation experience (250hours, portfolio) gives cat 2, £2.500 center training cost. then £1,200 for core plus 3 cert fee. then gsr £465.
or
£5,500 as cat 3, 7 days at kwickfit center. then its dangerous...

Just pop to your local training centre and ask them, they will explain everything to you.

As others have said, you are a CAT3 entrant (no prev gas exp). So you will need to build a portfolio of work evidence as REDSAW states.

This can take anywhere from 6 - 24 months depending on your other work commitments, plus you need to find a gas engineer willing to let you tag along with him and give you their time in explaining stuff, taking pics, signing off paperwork etc.

You then need to attend college and complete the relevant CAT3 course. The prices you quote are for CAT2 it would seem.

REDSAW has recently completed his, so why not drop him a PM if you need more info or help. I'm sure he will oblige.

Insurance £1000
gsr £450
analyzer and related tools £1000
course £1000

£3500 should cover it

dont think of the ACS as a gas qual. its a safety ticket for experienced gas fitters/plumbers/related trades

it is not a training course

if you want to get into gas do a gas qualification ie tech cert/nvq in gas

i dont disagree that he might be better off with a gas qual, however he might want to work in gas, in which case he can do a gas foundation course and build up a portfolio of evidence which will allow him to sit ACS and earn some money

thats fair enough kirkgas. the training there is the foundation course, im pointing out that the acs will not train you to be a gas fitter, nor is it intended to.

ive spoke to many in the industry that dont like the foundation course as they feel its a short cut to being a gas fitter. i dont think it will be around forever, it will be replced by the new qcf units, maybe not this year or next but for sure things will change in next 5 years
