Please would some one confirm the size of pipe to fit a standard hobThe original is 15mm but do I reduce this just before the hob to 10mm to fit the standard hob male 1/2 inch connection

if you have to ask you are not competent to work on gas stop before you harm someone

I have just started out in the gas Business had to go in feet first as at 49 its hard to find an apprenticeship Its better to ask than get it wrong To just wing it would make me incompetent I ask for advice not a blind opinion Can anyone help please

GRegg1908, the manufacturers instructions or your first port of call, they'll advise you on the correct pipe size for the hob you're fitting... If you are GSR however and have your necessary appliance qualification, it does seem a strange question to ask, especially new at the game! IMHO

Obviously you'll check that the working pressure at the hob is within parameters set out in MIs and passes tightness test...

if you are qualified you wont be winging it cause you KNOW what you are doing,

Thanks for the replies

Answer to book question we were taught open book from the viper.

I ask the question as to get a head start before i land on site and aquire the model Mi's etc.

I'm going to tightness test pipe size etc but i thought there was a standard fitting to a NG hob inlet IE a 10mm short end of pipe and fitting into the half inch inlet of the hob.

Can anyone verify this or are most hobs fitted with different inlts

Cheers Gregg1908

Nothing to do with what size the connection is at hob it's to do with size kw to pipe length then calculate whe pipe diameter you require take into account any pulled bends solder bends ect
Viper book has a good diagram for this purpose
But if your newly qualified really should still be fresh in your mind
You need a service valve at hob also

sorry lost you there i dont have a problem pipe sizing i ask the size of the gas hob inlet,i can pipe size as per the thread i posted last i ask if there is a standard hob inlet connection size
Can anyone answer the simple question without judgement or sarcasm please

Common sense if you are in doubt you'd use a 15mm. I used to do it in 10mm but do it in 15mm now as had the odd hassle with end feed reducers going into compression fittings. The connection at the hob is almost always 1/2" BSP so you can either fit a 1/2"x10mm or 1/2"x15mm fitting on to that it depends on the requirements of the appliance

Ok maybe i picked you up wrong
Inlet connection is normally 15mm male

Cookers used to come with various sized connections eg ¼" M or F or ½" M or F but they are all pretty standard ½" now.
What size pipe you use is up to you. You are the guy who is taking responsibility. Figure it out. It is not hard to do.

nobody including me are being sarcastic or judgmental,i suggest you word your posts better in future ,look at your original question it comes across as a diyer trying to fit a gas appliance ,and if you are gsr join the plumbers arms or gsr only forum this is the net after all anyone can claim to be something there not

work out how much gas the hob uses, normally tells you in the MI's, it all depends doesnt it.. some mug may have fitted a 15mm gas supply to it for 50m, how do we know..

if you're unsure of the fitting you need, take it with you to a shop

ive asked to join the gsr forum, but dont think im added ? dunno how long it takes, dunno where to look when it turns up ?

try logging on should take about a week but its up to dan or dave

I normally use a 1/2 female x 15mm end feed elbow if possible and going through into next cubby. Make sure you measure the clearances you need for the oven or you will slap yourself in the face if the pipe stops the oven going back correctly.
Allways follow manufactures instructions to the letter, and double check your clearances above hob and ventilation requirements.

It can be a daunting fitting something new for the first time on your own, you will soon build your confidence up, good luck.
