since the terrible tragedy regarding the fatality of that poor lad,do you think they are clamping down on the safety of the engineer aspect more ?

Have any inspectors mentioned /checked gas plumbers carrying co2 alarms as well ?

do you mean the young gas guy who was found dead while fitting heating? i heard somewhere he had a generator in the flat has anyone else heard that? if it was that case then surely every tradesman/woman is at as much of a risk of CO poisoning

incase someone looks at this thread who hasnt had an inspection yet, when using temp cont bonding make sure you use a volt pen or whatever you call them to check the pipe isnt live, because i didnt and he told me off.

i have never heard of this and surely it cant be required, if the gas meter is properly connected then fixing the temp cont bond wont give you a shock will it? although i do use/rcommend a good volt stick is used on a boiler casing to confirm no stray current will get you, so maybe it is the same as the temp cont bond (although there is no fault finding in the ACS, there is plenty re temp cont bond and nothing of volt stick etc

I am not stealing a thread but do you assessor / lecturer / instructor fellows think that an ACS candidate should be competent with a simple multimeter

I couldnt work out the difference between touching the pipework before id broken the joint and after i had broken the joint but had temp bonding in place. surely i would of had a shock both times.??

firstly as a gas engineer i would say yes we should have and need basic electrical competance to ensure safety and basic fault finding, as an assessor whether it should be in ACS and therefore renewable every 5 yrs is something else, this would also prob mean extra training from a sparky lecturer rather than a plumber (i say that as a plumber) as we have said before other trades dont need to prove 5 yr competance

I totally agree on the safety aspect, put simply just to make sure a boiler is isolated and any external controls are dead
You never know what you will find as I am sure you know

I had mine today, very nice bloke, took me to one service and one installation, asked question on tightness, checked work pressure at the meter and boiler, worked out gas rate, checked the flue and condensate pipe. Asked question on the U6,G4 and E6 meter, Asked a couple of question on open flue boiler and off he went. Ticked me off from the probationary period. My advice if you know all your basics you should not have a problem.

Thats the kind of inspection I envisaged ,congratulations on finishing your probationary period and good luck but as you say if you have sound base of the basics you can go forward without much need of luck

imho

Had my inspection today i was stressing myself out about it this morning because i didnty know what to expect but it turns out the inspector was a really nice bloke , i havent done any of my own work yet so i done a tightness test , tested the standing/working pressures carried out a gas rate , tested burner pressure and check the flue with an analyser , then he asked me questions about each appliances ive got on my ticket i wasnt sure about one and he was happy that i could show him in my viper book where it was all went quite well :) but he needs to see an appliance i have fitted before i can come off the probation im quite happy with that now i know what to expect :)
