Always remove and cap regulator when soldering.......its the way i was trained and the way i will continue to work. My hobbies are dangerous enough .
 
So increasing air/gas mix in the pipe is a good thing? Are you saying tour tutor says you should remove meter even when using just a compression fitting?
 
When you remove the reg you have to sometimes remove the lead plug that keeps it in place on the meter bracket.

Do yous replace it with a newun ??
 
99/100 times I remove the meter as its so easy to do. If I'm feeling particularly rough I will do a quick soldered joint if I'm happy little air has entered the pipework. But officially not
