There are about 6 different types of boxes Mike. That one is an IGT box and meter fitted on a new(ish) estate by the likes of United Utilities or IPL.

The builders use the independents to fit the supply as it is usually much cheaper than Transco. That supply pipe belongs to the IGT so the people who buy the house are then landed with slightly higher gas bills forever as the supplier has to pay Transco and the IGT.

IGT meters are a nightmare! The gas provider isn't allowed to change the meters either so when faulty it's a nightmare for the customer!

Competition was supposed to be a good thing and bring in lower prices!

Tell Sid he's a robbing b

The fitting on the right is the wrong fitting, it is a female compression coupling, not a gas meter connection (according to college)

Your college is wrong. There is nothing wrong with the fitting.
The fitting on the outlet is a 1" BS746 x 3/4" BSP meter tail with a 3/4" x 22mm bent compression female on it.
The meter tail was left by whoever fitted the meter, probably with a 3/4" iron cap end on it. Pretty std stuff on a semi concealed box.

You can tell them they are wrong.

What chance have the students got when the teachers don't know basic stuff.
