Gas Safe Course

Hi all, i enrolled for a gas course today. Apparently if your 19-23 you can get it for free and if your like me 24 plus you can get a student loan for it. Il pay back £7 a month after 2016 only if on a salary of 21k plus which seems worth it.

Just a quick question i saw on a website that you have to retake your acs exam every five years, do you have to retake the whole thing or is it just a update test?

The difference between initial and reassessment after 5 yrs is one written paper less and about 3hrs less practical.
Re the other financial stuff, please be VERY VERY VERY careful before you sign up for any scheme, get someone else to run their eye over the paperwork too, not saying they will be cleverer than you just that you can be caught up in the excitement of it all and may miss something your friend will spot,
Too many people sign for things then realise that it isn't exactly as they thought but by then it's too late

Yes same everyone does. Unless there is another regulation changed or new test.

Is it only the ACS you have to retake? Or do i have to retake the whole thing ccn1 cp12 ect

Everything depend which qualification you have

Ccn1 is your core gas safety. This will need to be done
Every appliance is a separate exam which also have to be taken.
a CP12 is a landlords gas safety certificate,not an ACS.

do you have any more information on the student loan to do the gas? im 24 and just gone self employed, getting a lot of people asking about servicing boilers and hate turning them down because i am not gas safe. i will get a few clued up people to read over terms before i sign up to anything though, seen to many too good to be true schemes and when you read into it they are just big cons.
government backed schemes seem to be the worst in my experience.

Sure, it was set up for me by a working agency. I went to the induction for it. They said 99% of there loan applicants are accepted for student finance regardless of credit history. It is payable from 2016 at £7 a month which will only come of your salary if you earn 21k plus. The boiler exam cost £160 more of your own money, similar to the unvented.

She told me once you finish their course you ring gas safe and register for £300 and that is it. I did not believe that or a lot else she was saying. I said you have to renew your card every year she had to ring the office to find out. That is all i know but if you want her phone number to find out more your welcome.

Im not sure this course is for me. I am currently considering moving away from plumbing and moving into finance.

What have you done plumbing/heating wise prior to enrolling on this course?
What's the course title, as my nipper would qualify for free as he's under 24?
Like to know, just to see if Warwickshire are running the same course with the same qualifying for free parameters.

I have done a nvq and city and guilds level 2 in 2006. The course title was diploma nvq lvl 3 in installation and maintenance in gas.

I think your right. This gas safe is just to much grief, retake the course every 5 years is a bit too much, id rather just do a course once that last a lifetime. Im thinking about moving away from construction anyway thinking of doing a different course.

If you pay me 10k I will provide accommodation and training for one year . You will be qualified but that's it. If you want to be any good that's three years. £10k year one £15k year two year 3 is free as you will be making me money by then

Iv worked under a few gas safe plumbers and helped them do most of what they do, that's the exp you'l need, but this woman was selling the course to people who have not even ever worked as a plumber or even done a plumbing course! They just wana sell sell sell lol

The next at not paying anything till 2016, I suspect that's how long they will mess you around.

It's a chance to catch up on the changes in regs and how they are implemented.

I've done 4 reassessments, the last one at the age of 62.

Head down ears open and PAY ATTENTION ! The rse hole who your stuck with knows his beans that's why your with him. If he tells you to sort his van out , do it and do it properly those tools cost thousands not £50!

Ask questions and do the same task 59999999 times without complaint, "ah not trvs" - yes a job you should do in a few mins without a moan or drip.

The nearest for my nipper is here, but are they any good, just confused as to which course is best as there's always a conflict of opinion when it comes to gas safe courses:

Best one is a local collage for nvq 2 then do a gas course independently via some one like NGST

No point doing gas unless he's been on tools learning for at least two years!

Cheers Ermi, so the nippers got obtain an apprenticeship head down ears open and graft.
What I've done now is had a banner made up size is approx 8 feet by 2 feet 6 inches for fixing to a large trolley we have outside our shop, in one of the slowest and busiest traffic areas in Coventry the banner is shown below.I'll put the banner in place once I've tweaked the website and put it back online.Took it offline as I'm receiving too many phone calls and just passing on gas work to others.
