As far as whether an analyser is required, I would say it depends on the type of job. If you take him to a service and MIs require that you take combustion readings at service, then I would expect he'd look at you with askance if you didn't have an analyser.

If you are that worried, hire one.

Just a question I have my probation inspection and I'm taking
The inspector to a property I did a landlord check in boiler is a Worcester
24i junior I did CPA of the boiler with hot tap running a got a reading
Which Was satisfactory question is should I have put the boiler into
Service mode where both Dhw and ch are In use to get a reading on my CPA analyser?
WHen doing cpa1 I only had to run the tap as was told boiler would be at full rate on Dhw.

Hardy1 as i said i didnt have one and it was okay, also we're located quite close so chances are we'll have the same guy, mine was called Andrew and really wasnt a bad bloke just very thorough

cheers for the info mate, for example now- you went to a boiler servic(wherever you took him), and the appliance needed an analyser to be tested?- what did he say?

when i was inspected he wanted to see work i had already done which was 2 landlord safety inspections, on the day we just redid what i had already done, only he made me do it much more thoroughly

i dont think they want to catch you out, just make sure youre not a dangerous idiot

Hardy dont stress mate, youre almost there last hurdle, well until 4 years time when you have to go through the whole thing again

Yeah, I know. There is no requirement to have a flue gas analyser. Therefore if you don't have an analyser you can't do flue gas analysis. No points deducted, no marking down, just every other part of your inspection will be assessed.

...for now.

If you don't hold CPA1 by 1 April 2012, your CEN1 and/or HTR1 categories could be suspended by GSR (quoted directly from Nov 11 Gas Safe Engineer Mag - Page 6). CPA1 will, after that date, be a pre-requisite to able to renew CENWAT1 and HTR1.

Basically, if you want to do any work on boilers, water heaters or fires, you'll need CPA1 first. ...and how can you prove competence to a GS inspector on CPA1 if you have no FGA?

I didnt have a FGA I told him and he didnt mind as its not required til April, I was honest with him and told him I hadnt used one since my CPA1 almost 2years ago, he was fine we used his he did most of it and went through all th readings and what they mean and how there calculated in loads of detail it was more lik a science lesson.

ive just bought my analyser got a probation visit in a few weeks hope it goes well .

First off, dont panic, its not worth it....(easy said than done) i know.
Had myself checked last week july 2012.Inspector was a really nice man,had a cup of tea and a chat, which took the pressure off.
Started off with let by,soundness test(tightness these days),permissible drops U6,E6,standing pressure, working pressure, and what to do if under pressure etc, onto gas rates, both imp and metric.Flues and vents. Then onto fires, flue classes, spillage test.genral questions about unsafe situations, and what to do.then another chat about the industry,he just wants to see if you can work safe on you own, thats all,its only the same as your ACS.just swot up on the above, and you will be fine.....then you can enjoy your nice cold beer when hes gone..good look guy (and girls)..gotta be PC these days.yep you will be woundering why you was arsed when hes gone ;).
