well thats for help everyone alot happier knowing more now for test. Just one more thing still not sure of.

If your boiler is say 30KW how far above or below the 30 could your gas rate be before things would be wrong ?
 
I was told your allowed plus or minus 5% but I think the MI's will tell you
 
I was taught +/- 5% and that I'd never find those figures written down, and that it was an old British Gas rule of thumb.
 
ok so just to make sure say my boiler was a 30kw i would be allowed 31.5kw at the most and 27kw at the least ?

More or less.
The difference it to allow for a few uncertainties. The calorific value of the gas is different around the counrty, your timing may not be exact and the different common ways of calculating it will produce different results. You will very rarely if ever get exactly as is stated in the MI's
