Grown back since then. Old orange ab, took the plate off to see the flame. Wont do that again in a hurry.

there used to be a boiler with the plate front,think it was an appollo , only held by a silly catch i was messing around with one that was fitted under a sink unit one day and did one to many attempts at lighting it and it blew the door of straight into my nose
i came out the cupboard with eyes watering as the customer came running in to see what the bang was think i mumbled something like "its ok they all do that "

Was speaking to a guy in the pub who has the same thing happen with a Glowworm. Was about a month old and it had blown up from inside blowing off the combustion chamber and side panels. It was replaced by Glowworm under warranty and the Glowworm engineer said e wasn't allowed to say why it happened.

I am surprised that the manufacture has not tested the boiler cover plate for this kind of event, it shows how much they know about explosive gas and air mixtures, they should test the boiler right through the range of gas and air with delayed ignition.

Sometime sooner or later a boiler is going to experience delayed ignition, I know of a cast iron sectional boiler that blew apart the sections, the tie bars had not been finally fitted and it kill the chap firing up the burner he had messed with the pilot and main gas valve wiring

Unfortunately I have the pleasure of working on these flexicoms everyday! Spark electrodes are always going and can cause explosive ignition. I've also had gas valves letting by could have been a combo? They have so many faults with them it's unbelievable I've posted on here before about which parts to watch out for on them inc all the plastic flue parts ( front flue hood, top flue hood, sump, etc)

Fitted a few. Love them.

However, repaired one which job description came through as kettling. Ran it for about half any hour taking temp readings etc waiting, then sounded like someone trying to break in smashing the door down. Turns out theres a half inch hole in the burner rotted through.. never did find out why..

There is little point in teaching you guys the rudiments of gas safety and then sending you out in the big wide world where manufactures provide you with unsafe crap, maybe they should go on the same training coarse as you do !

You may think it's funny, but any lower down might be your eyes and your wouldn't have type the post above, instead of telling all and sundry on UKP would it not be better if we told the Glowworm, they should have withdrawn them or made a mod. I worked for Hamworthy Combustion for a while and they would have fixed that quick-style, in fact it would never have happened.

I have been looking for this information for over a month now and glad I've just stumbled across it. I did ask a general question on here about whether anyone had experienced this without naming the boiler or manufacturer. For some reason the post was suspended. This was the same boiler / model that blew up in my face, some posters may well joke about the cost of the product and say you get what you pay for, but the law states that any product sold through a retail outlet must be fit for purpose and safe. As this has happened obviously more than once then it fails from a safety point of view, I would not wish this to happen to anyone and anyone who thinks it is even slightly amusing I would suggest you are in the wrong industry. Having read the original posters post, then Glowworm / Vaillant have been lying to me as they have said that the boiler I installed was the first they had come across which had blown up with the force from an explosive ignition. When meeting the technical manager from Vaillant the very first thing he said, was that the boiler casing was designed to withstand any kind of explosive ignition. The boiler was then sent to Nanttes in France for independent testing, not sure whether it was actually independent testing and the report has come back indicating an issue with the ignition (low resistance caused by moisture within the combustion chamber and on the ignition probes) In my opinion the manufacturers are trying to cover this up and claim to have no understanding of why this happened...
