I assume if the fires on in the boiler and making the normal heating up sound it's fired up ...which is what it's doing but is there any other way of checking..?
Easiest way to check is by looking through the little inspection hole on the boiler case. When the boiler isn't on you should see the little pilot light flickering away. When the boiler is on you should see lots of blue flames shooting upwards.
 
I vote timer at fault
 
Bit more info..
I've just advance the heating and hot water, boiler fired up but when I looked through the inspection hole there was just this flame....

As I was looking I noticed it clicking trying to light more flames but they wouldn't light..
 
A service call is needed here by a GSI to check out the fault? there appears to be a leak on the 3 port valve which needs sorting out I would check the motorised valve is operating properly and the other controls . Kop
 
Is your pump working?
Put a long screwdiver to your ear and place it on the pump body, you should hear it spinning
