Hi Guys,

Hopefully someone can help me out with this; so yesterday the reset button and the blue light were blinking, the pressure was at zero and there was no hot water.
So today I went out and bought that plastic key, topped up the pressure and it's now at about 2.
buttons were still flashing, pressed the reset and still no hot water, and after a couple of minutes the buttons start flashing again. Have called the property management people but their plumber can't get here for a few days,
so thought I'd chance asking someone on here...

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Boiler make and model would be helpful... the sequence / speed of the flashing light will indicate the likely fault. Your boiler manual will have a fault chart near the back!

Thanks for the reply,

It's a greenstar 24i junior, and the reset button is flashing quickly, about twice as fast as the blue button; this is a rented property so unfortunately the manual is long gone! I rang Bosch and the only advice they gave me was about using the key to increase the pressure...

Seeing as the pressure was on zero, might need to vent the whole system. Some greenstars have a manual vent inside the casing (top of heat exchanger) which may cause your boiler to go too lockout / overheat alarm!

Ok, is the manual vent something I could do myself or should I wait for the plumber?

Well you vent the rads easily enough, the boiler one is fairly easy too but involves taking the boiler cover off. (wait for engineer if your not confident with this.)
You can download a manual from Worcester Bosch website for all there boilers. The engineer will ask for it anyway, and will be helpful for future servicing!

Ok thanks for your help, might have a look at the manual on the site and see if I can make some sense of it!:)

h-murphy, There's Little you can do other than press reset... Make sure your gas is on, by-the-way, haven't ran out or meter failed if it's a pre-payment! The red light either flashed once/sec or 4/sec which indicate different faults. What pace would you say the light is flashing at?

Hi,
red light is flashing about once per second, quite quickly; gas is definitely working, because the hob cooker is gas and its running fine;
have pressed reset button loads now, doesn't seem to be helping! checked the manual online as well, there's no suggestion as to what to do aside from resetting...

You have to hold the reset button down for about 5-10 seconds, not just press it. Not sure if you have been doing this or not.

Yes, have held it for the 10 seconds, it starts up and the light goes off for about 30 seconds, and then starts flashing again...

To be honest i'm not surprised your boiler doesnt work ,,,its a worcester but best of luck sorting it !!

Can't see how that's helping other than upsetting the person who has this boiler.

My mother taught me if you have noting nice to say, say nothing at all

My advice would be to phone you letting agent/ landlord.

If they are no help. Stop paying rent and call in your own plumber and and send the bill to them

If your getting no luck after resetting it when you have topped the pressure back up then there isn't really anything else you can do but get a GSR engineer out :(

Thanks for all the replies, yes I've rung a gas company who can fix it, but trying to get hold of the landlord to pay for it is a bit of a nightmare,
she lives abroad and doesn't take too much interest in the flat!:crazy:

It is her legal responsibility to provide you with a minimum amount of comfort, I believe hot water and central heating are on that list!

What Diamondgas said is right, and If your landlord won't get it fixed then make a complaint to your local council, they can put an enforcement order on the landlord to make the repairs.

Unfortunately,when landlords live abroad it's not easy to enforce repairs orders,and will take weeks or months to get through the red tape.The best hope is to try and get friendly with your L/L and hope it doesn't get that far.And thank some God or other that it's summer!

That's it exactly; she's uncontactable most of the time and I can't afford the repair myself - it'll be cold showers for the next while, like you said at least its warm at the mo!

'h' ... tried stopping payment? I have been paid by the tenant who has then reduced their rent accordingly! Depends on your relationship with your landlord and the contract you've agreed to! ... good luck!

Hi gassafe;
yes so I went and bought a key, topped up the pressure and still no hot water, so had a plumber round to sort it out;
not sure of the specifics but he told me there was a blockage which was causing the water to build up so the gas couldn't ignite; he fixed it fairly quickly though so at least it wasn't any major (ie. expensive) problem
(not sure if that vague explanation will be of any help!) :)
