Discuss hiring gas engineers in the Gas Engineers Forum area at Plumbers Forums

MFGS - yeah i have found it is hard to find someone who can do everything. people seem to specialise in one sector such as servicing or break down or installs or site work or reactive maintenance etc.

I have always tried to get broad range of experience but seems like a lot of people stick to one thing, this is why i always see 3 BG vans at any job, one holding the light, one to hold the spanner and one to use it.

I have quickly learnt you will not get all you want and main thing i look for is someone with the right attitude and has enough quality and skill to cover their costs that i can then bring on that bit more and mould into the way we work.

takes a lot of bitting my tongue and patience i have found

hope this helps

Yeah, I find people just want to stick to doing one thing. A lot of people get put off because we do a lot of site work. Then the site worked dont want to work in occupied houses!

What agency did you use? What were the fees if you dont mind me asking? I am still looking for 1 or maybe 2 people at the moment.

But on speaking with people and feedback from the agent plumbers now seem to want around 40k so dont know what gas engineers are expecting around 50K i guess.

Will have to put all my prices up again if this is the case so i can hire the better engineers.

I think in reality no one makes 50k without working 50 hours a week. When I advertised a job that allows a person to have a life no one applied. Some people are just short sighted I guess. Take the bait of a high advertised salary then quickly get undone when they are coming home from work at 10pm every other night.

I'm getting a bit work-shy. I've started having Wednesdays off to take the bike to the track.
Give me 35k for 8hours door to door and equivalent of 12weeks holiday and I'll wrap things up here👌

What area do you work in?
