Have replaced two Honeywell V4073 actuators in about 4years. Decided to try a cheaper Tower model and
it seemed to work fine with no problem initially then i noticed it started buzzing at times and when i checked i found the synchro motor was real HOT checked wiring and found that the programmer was not switching off on the heating circuit. disconnected that feed and by turning on heating and hot water on the programmer (an st699) it worked as it should and when timer operated valve returned to rest position hot water only.
great. but it still gets damn hot when in the heat only position and has 240v on orange grey and white.
I'll probably swap the programmer for a 7 day unit. but how hot should these synchro motors run and is it 'off'
when it sits at heat only? anyone help?

Think the answer is to go back to honeywell, tower valves usually last 18 months. Can get a bit embarrassing with custards.

If the hhot water is turned off before the heating the motor remains powered.

There's nothing wrong with your Tower valve! All 3-port mid-position valves (with the exception of Sunvic motor-on/motor-off valves) will do this. 240v remains on the grey wire when the valve is in port A (heating) only position, so the motor is still energised even when heating has been satisfied.
