Hi all, just looking to pick the brains of you pro plummers out there.

I have luke warm water coming outa the taps.
I have a cold water tank in the attic and a hot water tank in a cupboard.
My heating is working fine but not my hot water.

I all so checked my motorised value under my hot water tank and it does seem to be moving freely.

I can put the hot water on boost by its self and hear the boiler doing its thing, but no hot water.

If i put the immersion heater on i get plenty of hot water?
Could it be the therostat on my hot water tank that gone?

Any help or ideas would be greatly helpfull!

It is set to 50, just to add.

I checked the small tank in attic and it has water and the value is working fine. I switched the water on boost and could feel the hot water making its way to the tank, very hot and pump and warm nearer tank. flicked the speed setting back and forward whilst giving the pipe to the tank a couple of knocks and now it is very hot all the way to the side of the tank. Due to trip on at 3-5 am in the morning so will see if i have hot water in the morning!

and yes my motorised value has been replaced about 2-3 months ago.

there's your problem. put the stat up to 60, should be set at that to prevent growth of bacteria etc.

Luke warm water again this morning, :(. Off to work now will need to look at it again later. The only thing I noticed is the pipe to the tank is warm till i mess with the speed of the pump and it ges hot, but after a short time gos warm again. Could there be air in my water tank?

Can you hear the stat clicking when you move the dial? At which point does it click?

I know you say the valve appears to move freely, but what if you use the manual position lever to move it and leave it there, does the cylinder flow get hot then? Obviously to prevent boil over, don't leave it set there, simply for elimination process.

there are a lot of things that can cause these problems but the pump is suspect if you ask me . . .

does it vibrate when you touch it? Is it hot both sides of the pump?

You may want an expert though as this can be quite complex . . .

Dont guess - get it right!

Does the pump not do the heating as well?? Heating is all fine.
Was running all the hot taps in the bathroom and my large tank in the attic started to empty, i say that cuz the ball dropped and allowed more water in.
I know i will proberly have to get some one in but it has happened before and it fixed its self.
i think it may be the thermostat on the boiler. I could change it for a new one and it would only cost me £15.

What do you think?

I have 2 tanks in the attic one big and one small.
There is a cistern on the big and small that fills them up.
Is the port value the motorised part that changes the flow between heating and water? if so that was replaced just before christams!

ok next development:

my hot water tank is cold, no surprises there. i lift off the thermostat and the tank is very cold to touch.
i put the immersion heater on and can feel the top of the tank getting hot but not the middle or the bottom??
is this normal?

Feel the pipes going into the cylinder side, check they are hot, one more than the other.

And what height is the cylinder stat at? It might be too high up.

I turned the boiler heater up last night and today i can feel the hot water tank is warmer near the bottom.
My thermostat is set about two thirds if the way down.
Fingers crossed for hot water in the morning!
