Hi croft. Don't think they have to be on JSA. I am on hols at the moment but when I get back I can dig out the details for you. Alternatively just phone the local college and they can tell you all about it. They are very helpful as they need to get apprenticeships for their students.

if you could post the details up Nat that would be great as im also looking employ an apprentice but to be honest would prefer an apprentice in thier 2nd year with a little bit of experience

Have a look at this:

Youth Contract ? key initiatives - DWP

They will give you £2275 if you employ a young apprentice and give them 6 months' work at a minimum of 30 hours per week.

I have been setting this up with them today and they have emailed me some stuff about how you can claim. I will happily forward this on to you if you PM me your email address.
