hi guys...just wondering how much you guys are charging to fit a central heating system (labour only).
ive got a 7 rad system to fit with a combi in a 2 storey bungalow...stripping out old one pipe system...and get this one old baxi boiler.....and one one main instantaneous water heater!! which i found strange to have in a small bungalow!!
Probabaly will take me 2/3 days.

the way i price heating jobs is type of boiler fitting and all materials needed once i have that i add my labour and mark up. and then get beaten on price by the undercutting cowboys.

labour only work is no good in my opinion, customer usually gets wrong boiler/rads/valves/flue or just get the cheapest crap out there, and then wants you the fitter/expert to do a cheap job, supply and fit mate, then you can have a mark up on materials, to cover any problems and help pay for gas courses/training courses/rising fuel costs and whatever else the goverment can get out of us or better still come chairman of a bank and pick up big fat bonuses. (am on one today)

200 a day/plus 60 to cover fittings used,if its an empty bungalow, with plenty of room under floor ,dream job

are you doing it all yourself or paying a guy to run pipe, hang rads while you connect up etc? this will need to be built into price!

That sounds like a lot of work for 3 days,I guess that's using plastic pipe? I'd want at least £1000 to rip out and install a new heating system,I'm always wary of customers that want to supply all materials,it usually means they want EVERYTHING cheap.

Edit: I bet you won't be able to keep the scrap either!

Regardless of the work it £360 per day plus materials plus travel

the problem with labour only is they know how much your making and usually if u want the same as you would make supply and fit they will think it is way to much and want to pay you half what you'd normally make.

£800 ESTIMATED!!!!!!
problem when customer supplies normally means its a nightmare scenario as they think they know enough to help you so cover your butt with hassle money, If they question the price then explain your names on the gas cert at the end , personally if they dont like it they can lump it ( estimate always involves removal of scrap)

Over many years of working for moi, iv'e developed an inbuilt antenna which twitches whenever i need reminding it's time to walk away from a potential customer. High amongst the catalogue of dog eared phrases guaranteed to trigger the antenna is 'You just supply the labour'

:)

The job is to supply and fit, got the materials side sorted was just wondering about labour costs.
My plan is to hang boiler on day one and do gas run and maybe flow and return and hang rads....then on day 2 get my pal in and strip old stuff and pipe up new stuff......with maybe a little bit to do on day 3. I was thinkin a grand for install....and have put in my price. Thanks for the input lads.....sounds like I'm on the same ball park as most of you.

I agree, I tend not to get involved when the custard wants to supply there own stuff. To me it shows a lack of trust from the offset as they obviously think we and skanking them straight away on supplying a boiler.

Plus they still expect the same level of service if anything goes wrong with it and if you play the old "well you supplied the boiler" line, it never ends well.

Although i tend to stay clear of any labour only work, labour on this for me would be just over £1000 + vat. Possibly more depending on gas and condensate run or if old flues are to be built it and plastered. Any scrap removed is kept.
Add a percentage to any materials supplied.

remember on labour only, you have given a price assuming all material will be on site and fit for purpose, so also include 2 things with your quote, 1 a daywork rate of £x per hour for hold ups caused by wrong/damaged/short material, and 2 a call out charge of £x as you supplied labour the only prob that will be a freebie will be caused by your faulty labour which you can control, so when you visit after a call to say no heating you get paid for the call and subsequent hassle when you visit and find the prob is the new boiler, you didnt supply = you dont warrenty, if i supply and fit, i cover all visits and if the boiler i supplied is faulty i will organise the warrenty visit etc

350-400 quid a day and it will probably take you a week on your own if you arn't very quick or experienced. We've never let the customer supply that much. I'd give 1 price and not a day rate. I'd probs say around 1250, you would robs get undercut but like said if they are trying to supply everything I wouldn't be that interested. There is always stuff which the customer leaves out and 200 a day is too cheap if you are trying to run a business, ok if you just want a bit of labour but with the time and added costs there could be you don't want it not to be worth your while. Add money on for unforseen costs and time.

same round me £150/£200 , course you then get them cowboys come in at £100 , went to one only last week , 1 week old they couldnt get hold of the installer , ill not bore you with the details but it took me a full day to put everything right.

I don't see the point in fitting a boiler for less than £300 a day. All the grief involved, back up service, registering it with gas safe.

You local council inspector will charge best part of £300 to come out and sign an install off assuming it is ok, so if you are self certing yourself and working for peanuts, I think you are mad.

I live in Southport, on the north west coast. I could be squeezed down to 350 a day but no less and to be honest I'd still say 1250 but work with a trainee/apprentice.

Dont get me wrong i would love to be able to charge more fact is area of the country i live in you just wouldn't get away with the bigger labour charges . You woud never get any work .

the problem you have is by doing the work for peanuts you continue the idea in the area that plumbers work for peanuts. Id always walk away fm this scenario as you earn nothing and end up stressed, and as for allowing 3 days for the job, is that 3 x 24 hours, its not worth it.

Just did an estimate of around £2k for replacing/moving all rads in a 3 bed house using boiler in sit and that depends on whether the original system is piped up correctly. If the custard doesnt take me up Im fine as its a pain lifting and moving rads at the best of times, if they do use me then at least the money is reasonable and I wont be rushing to get out

I once sat down and worked out my overheads, it was somewhere in the region of £90 a day, probably higher now with the cost of diesel etc. So no way would i work for some of the figures being quoted on here.

It's a real worthwhile exercise, and i guarantee you will get a shock.... better not to work than to work for nothing!

If you have a good reputation, you will always get work, can't see the point of buying it.

i bet british gas and all the larger companies dont charge much less due to area it depends how you look at it are you just trying to make what you would make working for a company or are you a heating company in your own right
