Hi jay.

Last week i quit my job to enroll to fast truck training course to be a plumber.
I was working as a bus driver :( for 7 years. I hated the job but it pays fairly good. I have paid £7k to get c&g 6129 plus electric part p along with energy efficency etc. The test centre is in kent. I have been searching for colleges and training courses for easy five to six months now. I visit the training centre without making an appointment. Peoples are very friendly with a backround of 20-25 years of experiance with a lots of qualifications. I know that i will travel 30-35 miles plus return every day as its a full time course but this will not last forever. I dont have much knowledge about plumbing but i do number of different building works such a plastering carpenter jobs decorating etc. whenever i get a chance. To be honest if you are really want to do something then you should run after it to get it and no matter what i am sure that you will be happy with the result. This peoples at the training centre will answer all your questions and give you advice. Before you do anything make sure that you have find the right training centre as you can be a dissapointed at the end. Many training centres wont even give you a 6129 so be careful before you make any payment as deposits are none refundable. Good luck mate.

So sorry mate but have you not read the comments on here, 7k for a 6129? Its not even a full plumbing qual. Whats the use of energy efficiency without your ACS? How will part p help unless your working with electric?
This just sounds like a pipe dream and someone has creamed 7k and your not going to be qualified in plumbing, be careful

well said fuzzy it sounds like a very big pipe dream to me as well nothing like experience as i prove every day with my two employies

have got a new lad who is a mate of my sons he has paid 11 grand to do a fast track course and become a plumber!! get his ACS!!! and become part P!!!
he has no experience and has been working as a chef What do you think ????

sorry sas but your not in the army and i doubt if your dream of being an instant heating engineer will work as members of this site keep saying you have to get experience or you wont get work simple fact.

what was your experience of the training scheme?

I'm doing a T4TS course right now but it's for my own interest, not to get a career, I've had one of those and about to retire! :)

I read the local newspapers and have noticed that the number of small ads for plumbers wax and wane over the year. Right now there's a lot of them so that tells me there isn't much work out there. In addition if a customer knows that there are that many available he'll squeeze the price and the plumber may feel he has to take the job because someone else will no matter if it's not being paid the going rate. When the demand picks up I expect to see the number of small ads go down the usual one or two that permanently advertise.

Well said, many new entrants dont unerstand this. Plumbing have got the press on all this big buks thing but all trades earnt good money in the mid naughties, not just plumbers? Those days have gone and it will be 15 years before they come back, like other trades

surely you are all wrong ,12 weeks master plumber????bpec unvented c@g papers worthless now to many people have them and still cant join two peises of pipe together.i would expect a master plumber to be able to do lead work, design and install soil and waste pipes to current regs, design and install hot and cold services with regaurd to current regs and usage requirement, design and install drainage, design and install heating systems having regaurd to regs pipe sizing etc,and you can learn all this in 12 weeks, wow.

We get people without a clue all the time we tended to use them as free as they only seem able to hump around rads, one recently level 3 qualified plumber almost completed his gas did not know what a zone valve was, another who was building a gas portfolio who did a gas rate by watching the electricity meter spin round, one guy nvq level 3 who could not wire a plug... the list goes on.
There are so many people newly qualified without a clue as they do not have any experience whatsoever. we now do not take on any trainees at all only time served, very experienced people, its simply not worth it costs too much to be stopping every two minutes because your master plumber you have just taken on can't get a bit in an sds drill.

it dont surprise me, many are not interested in being a tradesman but just learning enough to earn big money
